Andy Carroll’s West Ham career is over

Andy Carroll is highly unlikely to pull on a West Ham shirt in anger again.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool striker’s time in East London has been blighted by injuries, the most recent of which came last month when he damaged his ankle. Now comes the news that he has had surgery to try and resolve his long-standing problems, and the chances of him playing again this season are very slim.

Now, as The Daily Mail reports, that means he will not play again for the club in a competitive fixture.

The 30-year old is out of contract in the summer, and will be allowed to leave as a free agent, with the club not prepared to offer a new deal to a player who spends so much time sitting on the side lines. Carroll has scored 34 goals in 142 appearances for the club spread over a seven year spell.
