Schürrle first victim of Fulham purge

Relegated Fulham have already begun their summer clear-out ahead of another season back in The Championship.

The Cottagers loss of their Premier League status was finally confirmed when they were beaten 4 – 1 at Watford on Tuesday night, and they have reacted swiftly to what was already a foregone conclusion.

An early victim of what is likely to be a thorough purge of the squad is German World Cup winner André Schürrle who is set to be sent back to his parent club Borussia Dortmund a year earlier than planned.

Schürrle joined Fulham at the start of the season on a two year loan deal, but a clause in the contract enabled the West London side to terminate the agreement early in the event that they were relegated. Now the 28-year old is set to be sent back to Germany, a move, which The Sun reports, will save Fulham £2.5 million in wages they would otherwise have had to pay the winger.
