Former player Marc Overmars could be set to return to Arsenal as Technical Director.
The Gunners had been widely linked with former Roma director Monchi, with whom current boss Unai Emery worked closely when the pair where at Sevilla together. However, despite many within the club believing that Monchi’s appointment was imminent, he chose instead to return to Sevilla, leaving Arsenal urgently looking for a replacement.
Now 45-year old Overmars, who is currently fulfilling a similar role at Ajax, is being closely linked with the job, with some reports suggesting that he has already informed his bosses in Holland that he wants to be considered for the post.
As a player, Overmars played for Arsenal between 1997 and 2000, helping them win their first double under Arsène Wenger in the 1997 – 1998 season. He was subsequently sold to Barcelona for £25 million, making him the most expensive player in Dutch history at the time.
