Manchester United are favourites to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid in the summer.
That is according to The Daily Star, who suggest that there may even already be an agreement in place for his transfer.
The Welsh international captain signed for Real in 2013, but despite scoring over 100 goals for them and helping them win four Champions League title, there seems to be a concerted move to force him out of the club.
Team mates like Marcelo and Thibaut Courtois have recently spoken on the record about his lack of Spanish and failure to integrate in the dressing room, whilst the club’s fans have recently taken to booing him.
That has prompted his agent, Jonathan Barnett to come out fighting on Bale’s behalf saying ““This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth’s goals for years to come. They should be ashamed of themselves. He deserves the greatest of respect. The way the Real fans have treated him is nothing short of a disgrace.
“In the six years he has been in Spain, he has won everything. He’s one of the best players in the world. Those fans should be kissing his feet.”
There have been suggestions that Bale would be offered to Chelsea in part exchange for Eden Hazard, who remains Real’s number one transfer target. However, Bale’s decision to join United would scupper that plan, and, given the continued uncertainty over whether Chelsea will be subject to a transfer ban this summer anyway, that idea may no longer be viable.
