Newcastle United are still up for sale, despite the lack of interest from any serious buyers for the club.
Current owner Mike Ashley put his stake in the club on the market in November 2017 but, despite talking with a number of potential bidders, none of them have emerged as credible buyers for The Magpies.
Now, according to The Independent, Ashley has got fed-up with the entire drawn-out process, and is only prepared to deal in future with those people or consortia that are prepared to prove in advance that they are serious, and have the funding in place to follow through on their interest.
Despite this, though the club remains for sale.
This latest news will be unwelcome for the club’s supporters who have long wished for Ashley to relinquish his control of the club. It also casts further doubt on the future of manager Rafa Benitez and his willingness to stay in the North-East beyond the end of this season.
