Jordan Sancho is one of the hottest talents in Europe right now; with his stunning right-foot volley against Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend just another manifestation of the blossoming talent of the Borussia Dortmund and England player.
However, his former club Manchester City could find themselves in the dock over the circumstances that led him to The Etihad in the first place.
The Daily Mail reports that the FA have launched a formal investigation into allegations that City made an illegal payment of £200,000 to his agent when the player, who was just 14 years old at the time, moved from the Watford Academy to Manchester. They quote claims by German newspaper Der Spiegel that the payment to the agent Emeka Obasi was disguised in the form of a putative scouting contract.
City could be found guilty of breaching the rules barring the paying of inducements for players under 16, and also because a player is not supposed to be represented by an agent before they have passed their sixteenth birthday.
