Emiliano Sala’s funeral was held in Argentina over the weekend.
However, no sooner has the unfortunate man been laid to rest than bitter arguments and recriminations over his transfer from French side Nantes have broken out.
First comes news that Cardiff are seeking clarification as to whether they need to pay his £15 million transfer fee in full, arguing that some aspects of the deal had not been tied up at the time that his plane disappeared over The English Channel.
More seriously still, the club have contacted the police and, according to The Daily Mail are threatening to sue football agent Willie McKay for price manipulation. They argue that McKay hiked the price for the Argentine striker by implying interest from other Premier League sides – including Everton and West Ham – that simply did not exist.
As McKay was effectively representing Nantes in the deal, that could throw the whole legitimacy of the transfer into question. At this stage, though, there is no suggestion that the Ligue 1 side were deliberately involved in any deception.
