Chelsea have been linked with a late bid to sign Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré.
The 26-year old Frenchman has long been touted as ready for a big money move amidst persistent rumours that PSG are interested in signing the former Rennes player, although the Ligue 1 champions now seem to have turned their attention to Everton’s Idrissa Gueye.
However, according to The Daily Mirror Chelsea have now emerged as surprise candidates to sign the French under-21 international before the transfer window shuts, with manager Mauricio Sarri viewing Doucouré as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas who has departed for Monaco.
Doucouré, who joined Watford three years ago, was the club’s player of the year season in the 2017 – 2018 campaign, but was left out of the squad which lost to Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday night, ostensibly with a knee injury. At the same time, Chelsea were hammered 4 – 0 at Bournemouth, their heaviest defeat in any competition since 1996.
