Marouane Fellaini is set to bring down the curtain on his Manchester United career by joining Chinese club Shandong Luneng.
The 31-year old Belgian international midfielder has become a bit-part player at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the club are willing to let him leave, although it is not yet confirmed if any transfer fee will be involved. The deal will certainly be lucrative for the player himself – FoxSports reports that Fellaini will triple his wages in China, making him one of the best paid players in the world.
Fellaini was linked with a move away from United in the summer, only to, in the end, sign a new 2-year contract extension for the club he joined on transfer deadline day from Everton in September 2013 for a fee of £27.5 million.
Fellaini’s move has ended any suggestion that Scott McTominay will be allowed to leave on loan this window, as he is now needed for cover in midfield.
