Southampton make approach for Birmingham striker Che Adams

Southampton have made an informal approach to sign Birmingham striker Che Adams.

The 22-year old striker who has scored 14 goals for Birmingham this season, has been attracting attention from a number of Premier League clubs, according to Sky Sports, none of whom have yet to make a formal offer for him, although Southampton may be on the verge of tabling a bid.

Whilst Birmingham do not want to sell him – they are under a transfer embargo so cannot sign a replacement – a substantial offer for the England under-20 international may be enough to persuade them otherwise.

A Coventry City academy player, Adams made his way into the professional game via stints in non-league football with Oadby Town and Ilkeston. His prolific form with the Derbyshire team earned him a move to Sheffield United, then in League One, before moving to Birmingham in a deal reputed to be worth £2 million two years later.
