Cardiff City are close to agreeing a deal to sign 28-year old Argentine striker Emiliano Sala from French club Nantes.
That is according to Sky Sports who report that a fee of £18 million is being discussed for the forward, which would break Cardiff’s current transfer record.
Cardiff are currently in 17th place in the Premier League, one place and point above the relegation places, and are desperate for a striker to help them climb the table, with Callum Paterson their leading scorer so far this season with 4 goals to his name.
Sala meanwhile has helped Nantes to mid-table security, scoring 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.
The Argentine flew to the UK for talks with Cardiff on Monday, and the Welsh side are hoping to sign and have him available for their relegation clash with Newcastle United on Saturday.
