Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente has been linked with a move back to Spain with Athletic Bilbao ready to bid for the 33-year striker.
Llorente who played for the Basque side between 2005 and 2013, scoring 85 goals in 262 appearances, finds himself very much a bit part player at Spurs, with first team opportunities few and far between. Signed from Swansea City in August 2017 as back-up to Harry Kane, he has only managed 41 appearances for Tottenham subsequently, mainly from the substitute’s bench or in cup competitions.
He scored a hat-trick in his last outing, the 7 – 0 rout of Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup last weekend, but with his prospects for the rest of the season looking dim, he is likely to welcome the chance to return to the club where he first made his name, before spells with Juventus and Sevilla preceding his arrival in the Premier League with Swansea.
Athletic’s transfer policy means they can only sign Basque players, states The Daily Mirror, which, fortunately for Llorente, fits his description, having been born in Pamplona.
