Guardiola rules out Foden loan

Pep Guardiola has ruled out the possibility of Phil Foden being sent out on loan after the teenager starred in his side’s 7- 0 hammering of Rotherham in the FA Cup on Sunday.

The match saw the 18-year old score his first goal in front of his home supporters at The Etihad, but when it was suggested that the England under-21 international might benefit from a spell away from City to get more minutes on the pitch, Guardiola rejected the suggestion out of hand. He said “Phil Foden loan? No way, impossible, he is going to stay with us many years.”

Last month Foden signed a long-term contract with City which will keep him at the club until 2024.

The news came on the same day as it was confirmed that another City youngster Brahim Diaz had signed for Real Madrid on a six-year deal. Diaz was highly rated by City but had only played four times for the club this season, and has made the switch back to his native Spain and the promise of regular first-team football.
