Christian Eriksen reluctant to sign new Spurs’ deal

Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is stalling on signing a new deal with Tottenham.

The former Ajax player is under contract until the summer of 2020, and the club want him to follow in the footsteps of colleagues like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min, as well as manager Mauricio Pochettino, and commit his long-term future to the club.

However, although Spurs, according to The Daily Mail are more than ready to double his current £70,000 wages, Eriksen is in no hurry to sign a new deal, amidst reported interest in his services from both Real Madrid and Barcelona, who would be prepared to pay him considerably more than Spurs would be able or willing to offer him. As a result, the 26-year old is keeping his options open as negotiations continue.

Eriksen, who joined Spurs in August 2013, has made 250 appearances for Tottenham and scored 62 times, making him the highest scoring Dane to have played in England’s top flight.
