Chelsea have rejected a bid from Bayern Munich of £20 million for their 18-year old winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi, who caught the eye with Chelsea pre-season was promised first-team football this season, but has seen his opportunities under new manager Mauricio Sarri severely limited, with one one Premier League and four Europa League appearances so far to his name.
However, his form and potential have attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, who are impressed with the impact that English youngsters like Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, and Reiss Nelson who is on loan with Hoffenheim from Arsenal have made in the Bundesliga so far this season.
Now, according to The Daily Mirror, Chelsea have told Bayern that, if they want to sign the teenager, they will need to raise their bid for £40 million.
The news that Chelsea may be prepared to sell one of their brightest young stars will not impress the club’ supporters who booed when he was withdrawn from the fray in the Boxing Day fixture at Watford, although the club later insisted he had a hamstring injury.
