Tottenham have exercised an option to extend Jan Vertonghen’s contract with the club for a further year.
The 31-year old defender was out of contract next summer, but the club have protected their investment by prolonging his stay until June 2020, reports The BBC.
He is just the latest player to sign new contracts with the club – Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Davinson Sanchez have all agreed new deals with Spurs in the past seven months, whilst young defender Kyle Walker Peters put pen to paper on a fresh contract last week.
Belgian international Vertonghen joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012 and has since gone on to make more than 250 appearances for them in all competitions, scoring 9 times. A stalwart of his national side, he has 110 Belgian caps to his name, and was part of the side that reached the World Cup semi-finals in Russia in the summer.
