Newcastle United want to convert the loan move of striker Salomón Rondon into a permanent arrangement.
The 29-year old Venezuelan international joined Newcastle in a one-year loan deal from West Bromwich Albion in August, with Dwight Gayle heading in the opposite direction.
After initially struggling at St. James Park, Rondon has established himself as the fulcrum of the Newcastle United, and has scored some vital goals as the club battles to escape relegation, none more so than the 55th minute winner away to fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Back in the summer, owner Mike Ashley refused to sanction the £16.5 million it would have taken to sign Rondon permanently, but that decision may now be revisited, given the importance of his goals to the club, which could make the difference between Newcastle staying up, or going down next season.
Gayle has also been a success at West Brom, scoring 8 goals for them in 12 games in The Championship, so there is probably an appetite from all sides to make the swap deal into a more permanent solution.
