Manchester City to sign US goalkeeper

Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Zack Steffen from MLS side Columbus Crew next summer.

That is according to Sky Sports who report that the 23-year old will join City on a 4 year deal next July, when the summer transfer window open, for a fee reported to be in the region of £10 million, the highest in the history of the Columbus franchise.

Steffen played college soccer at the University of Maryland before a two year stint in Germany with Freiburg where he eventually became their third choice goalkeeper.

He joined Columbus in 2016 and has subsequently gone on to make 71 appearances for them. He was named MLS goalkeeper of the year for 2018 and is a full USA international with 6 caps to his name after making his debut in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier this year.

Steffen told reporters: “Today’s announcement regarding next summer is a special moment for me and I look forward to finishing my time with this club on a strong note. I am eager to continue to put in the work to improve and be the best team-mate I can.”
