United ready to pay huge sum to land Pochettino

Manchester United are prepared to pay up to £40 million to make Mauricio Pochettino their new manager.

That is according to The Sun who report that Old Trafford bosses are determined that Pochettino is the manager that they want to replace Jose Mourinho, and are ready to pay the full compensation that Spurs are likely to demand for the 46-year old Argentine.

The United hierarchy are becoming increasingly unhappy with Mourinho and, with the side currently languishing in 8th place and, because of goal difference, effectively 9 points off a Champions League spot, it is already looking like being a season to forget for The Red Devils.

One bright spot is that, due to a clause in Mourinho’s contract, failure to qualify for the Champions League means that the amount of compensation they will have to pay the Portuguese is limited.

Pochettino only signed a new deal with Spurs in the summer, but has become frustrated by the lack of investment in the squad, amidst continuing uncertainty over the cost of the new stadium, and when it will be finally ready.

Zinedine Zidane has also confirmed his plans of returning to coaching and it is believed that the United hierarchy haven’t ruled out Zidane as one of the candidates to replace Jose Mourinho.
