Manchester City set to win race to sign Ajax youngster

Manchester City are set to beat Barcelona to the signing of Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong.

That is according to The Daily Mirror who report that City are ready to spend £61 million in the January window to sign the 21 year old, who they regard as a long-term replacement Fernandinho who will be 34 next May.

De Jong has been on the radar of many of the top clubs in Europe because of his mobility and creative passing ability, allied with his ability to move the ball quickly with accuracy and speed.

A product of the Willem II youth system, de Jong joined  Ajax in 2015, and, since breaking into their first team, has made 50 senior appearances for the club scoring twice.

Despite his age, he is already a Dutch international and was part of the side that ended France’s long unbeaten run with victory in their Nations League match on Friday.
