Mark Hughes set for the sack at Southampton

Mark Hughes could be set for the sack at Southampton unless his side win their home match against Southampton.

The South Coast side have endured a difficult start to the season, and were thrashed 6 – 1 by Manchester City on Sunday. Furthermore, the style of football served-up under Hughes is turgid at best, and his side have scored only one goal from open play since the middle of September.

Now, according to The Daily Mirror, the club’s board are starting to lose patience, and are ready to bring a premature end to Hughes’s time on the South Coast unless they win on Saturday.

That could see a return to Premier League management for either David Moyes or Sam Allardyce, both of whom have been linked with the job, as well as former manager Gordon Strachan.

Hughes may not be the only Premier League manager set to lose his job shortly, with Fulham boss Slaviša Jokanović under huge pressure after Monday night’s defeat at Huddersfield saw his side fall to the foot of the table.
