Chelsea watch AC Milan defender

Chelsea have reignited interest in AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli, and sent scouts to Italy to watch him play in the Milan derby on Sunday, reports The Daily Mail.

Romagnoli, who currently captains the Milan side, began his career with Roma after graduating from their academy system. After a loan spell with Sampdoria, he was sold to Milan in August 2015 for a fee of €25 million (£22 million), and has since gone on to make 120 appearances for the Rossoneri. Having made his senior international debut in 2016, he has now won 8 full caps for Italy.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have been monitoring the 23-year old for some time, and even tabled a bid for him in the summer of 2016, which was turned down. Romagnoli is also rumoured to be on Jose Mourinho’s shopping list, as he looks to bolster his Manchester United defence.

Romagnoli ended up on the losing side on Sunday, as his side went down to an injury-time winner scored by his opposing captain, Inter’s Mario Icardi.
