Rangers linked with move for Southampton midfielder

Rangers are being linked with a move for former player Steven Davis in the January transfer window.

That is according to The Scotsman who report that the Northern Ireland international could be set for a return to the club he left in 2012.

Davis has played more than 220 times for Southampton, but his first-team opportunities at St.Mary’s this season have been limited to six minutes as a substitute in the Premier League, and two Carabao Cup outings. With Mark Hughes seemingly preferring to play Oriol Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Mario Lemina in midfield, and with James Ward-Prowse and Stuart Armstrong also ahead of him in the pecking order for The Saints, Davis could be looking for an escape route, which Steven Gerrard is ready to provide.

Davis, who has 105 international caps for his country, won three Premier League titles, the Scottish Cup twice and the League Cup twice during his first spell with Rangers, and was named the SPFA’s Players’ Player of the Year for the 2009 – 2010 season.
