Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is on the brink of signing a contract extension with Chelsea.
That is according to The Evening Standard who reports that the 27-year old, who still has two years left on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, is ready to commit his immediate future to The Blues, although the length of the extension has not been confirmed.
A £24 million signing from Fiorentina in August 2016, Alonso has established himself as one of the best attacking left-backs in Europe, and he finished last season as the top scoring defenders across the top 5 European leagues, with seven goals to his name.
That form has seen him break into the Spanish national side, but he was unable to prevent his team from falling to defeat in their pulsating Nations Cup match against England in Sevilla on Monday night.
The player, who began as a Real Madrid academy player, has previously been linked with a move back to his former club and Barcelona, but now speculation about a move back to Spain looks set to be ended with his new extended deal.
