Steve Bruce may just have left the hot seat at Villa Park, but already the field of contenders waiting to take his job is starting to swell.
Bruce was sacked as manager on Wednesday after a disappointing start to the season, which has seen Villa flounder in mid-table in the Championship. The final straw was Tuesday’s home draw with bottom-side Preston which Villa could only draw, despite leading two – nil at one stage. One fan was so disgruntled that he even threw a cabbage at Bruce!
Now the names being linked with the vacant post include Thierry Henry, who was rumoured to be in contention for the job in the summer, and John Terry, who captained the side last summer. Another name in the frame is Paolo Fonseca, currently manager of Ukrainian side Shaktar Donetsk, who is best known in the UK for beating Manchester City in the Champions League last season, and then appearing at his subsequent press conference dressed as Zorro.
