Aguero signs contract extension

Sergio Aguero has signed a one year contract extension with Manchester City.

The club’s record goal scorer has penned a new deal worth a reported £220,000 a week that will see him extend his stay at The Etihad, following his move from Atlético Madrid in 2011.

The 30-year old, who surpassed Eric Brook’s 78 year old record last season, had initially struggled to come to terms with the demands of Pep Guardiola, and had, at once stage, considered leaving the club.

However, he now feels that he is sharper than ever, and playing the best football of his career, something which he partly attributes to knee specialist Dr Roman Coat, who has helped him cure some recurring injury problems.

Currently on 204 goals and 299 appearances for the club, Aguero hopes to add to that tally against Cardiff City this weekend, having started the mid-week Champions League defeat to Lyon on the bench.

Speaking to Manchester City TV, Aguero said: I am happy for this additional year. “My idea was being here for 10 years. I’ve been here for seven years; it’s going to be 10 when the contract expires.”

Previously Aguero has avowed his intention to finish his career back in Argentina with his boyhood club Independiente, and his latest contract extension is not thought to have any impact on that decision.
