Veteran defender Gareth McAuley has joined Rangers on a one year deal after passing a medical at the club.
The 38-year old was a free agent after leaving West Bromwich Albion in the summer, having spent seven years at the club and playing more than 200 Premier League games for them. Now he has been snapped-up by Steven Gerrard who is looking to bring more experience to his backline.
As Sky Sports report McAuley becomes Steven Gerrard’s 15th summer signing, and has been able to join his new club after the expiry of the summer transfer deadline, because of his free agent status.
McAuley joins his new club a day after they suffered their first defeat of the season, going down to an Olivier Ntacham winner in the first Old Firm derby of the season, although Rangers fans and their manager were incensed that the referee chose to ignore an apparent body check on one of their players in the build-up to the goal.
