Chelsea flop linked with January move back to former club

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is being linked with a January move back to Leicester City, the club he left in a £35 million deal a year ago.

However, the move that was intended to recreate the partnership with NGolo Kante that helped Leicester win the Premier League two seasons ago has turned sour, and Drinkwater has just started five Premier League games since his move, and has been marginalised by new manager Maurizio Sarri, who has a wealth of midfield options from which to choose at his disposal.

Now the 28-year old is being linked with a move back to Leicester, who, according to the Express, want to take the midfielder back on loan, although they could face competition also from Southampton, who have also been monitoring the player’s situation.

A former Manchester United academy graduate, Drinkwater will be hoping that a loan move and regular first team football will see him force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans, enabling him to add to the three England caps he has already won.
