Rangers are ready to reject any further moves by French side Bordeaux to sign their Columbian forward Alfredo Morelos before the European transfer window closes in two weeks’ time.
The 22-year old striker has only been with the Scottish club a year, but already has established himself as a firm favourite with the fans and his new manager, Steven Gerrard, who not only wants to hold on to him but is prepared to offer him a new contract.
However, according to Sky Sports, on the eve of their Europa League qualifier against Slovenian side Maribor, Rangers received a £3.75 million bid for the player, which was immediately rejected out of hand, with the offer being labelled “derisory”.
Whilst Bordeaux are thought to be ready to make another offer, Gerrard has made his position on the matter quite clear, saying “I’m wise enough to know that every single player on the planet has a price – but the message to Bordeaux is we don’t want to sell.
“If they want the player then they need to show some respect and come blow us out the water with a massive, massive bid. Otherwise, don’t pick the phone up.”
Rangers drew their tie with Maribor to extend their unbeaten start under Gerrard, and now face a play-off with Russian side Ufa to determine who will qualify for this season’ s Europa League.
