French side Marseille have been linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian international only signed a new long-term deal at The Emirates back in March. However, with the signing of Uruguay World Cup star Lucas Torreira at the club as well as the arrival of promising French teenager Mattéo Guendouzi, Elneny finds himself under pressure for his place under new manager Unai Emery and may be ready to move away as he looks for guaranteed first-team football.
Marseille are one team hoping that the midfield anchor-man might become available, reports The Daily Mirror, after he was confined to the bench during Arsenal’s’ home defeat by Manchester City on Sunday.
For their part, Arsenal are likely waiting for an update on the injury suffered by Ainsley Maitland-Niles in that match before deciding if Elneny can leave.. Pressed into service as a make-shift left back, the England under-21 midfielder had to hobble off against City after a clash with Kyle Walker.
Should Maitland-Niles’ injury lay-off prove to be of any length of time, they are unlikely to agree to the sale of Elneny as that will leave them short in midfield.
