Wolves ready to pay over the odds for Middlesbrough winger

Wolverhampton Wanderers want to sign Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore so much that they are prepared to pay over the asking price for him.

That is according to The Sun who report that Traore has a £18 million release clause in his contract, but that the Premier League newcomers are willing to pay up to £22 million for the player, provided that Middlesbrough accept it in instalments, rather than demand that the full amount has to be paid up front.

The paper reports that the reason behind the proposal by Wolves is because they are mindful of the need to stay within the guidelines of Financial Fair Play (FFP) in their first season back in the top tier of English football, and are reluctant to overspend in case they are relegated straight back down again.

Whilst Middlesbrough would prefer the money up front, they may consider the alternative arrangement as they look to strengthen their own squad, although, with the transfer window closing at midnight on Thursday, they are running out of time to get any deal over the line.
