Rangers could be set to make their 11th signing of the season by taking Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson on a season-long loan move.
21-year old Simpson is highly rated at Bournemouth, and after a few cameo appearances for the Dorset club last season, had expected to challenge for a first-team spot this season. However, he now may instead head north of the border to continue his football education, according to The Scottish Sun.
Despite already signing Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic to his backline, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is eager to bring in more defensive reinforcements, although a bid to sign promising young Manchester City player Kean Bryan failed when the player opted to join Sheffield United instead.
One potential impediment to the Simpson deal, however, occurred on Saturday, when regular centre-back Nathan Ake picked up an injury in a friendly against Marseille, as reported by Sky Sports. His knock is not thought to be serious, but the Simpson move will only be sanctioned by Bournemouth when they know they have sufficient defensive coverage themselves
