Brighton are looking for additional defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season, and have made an £8 million bid for Jack O’Connell, currently playing for Sheffield United, and £3 million for Wigan’s Dan Burn.
That is according to The Daily Mail who report that manager Chris Houghton wants to add at least one more centre-back to his squad ahead of the closing of the transfer window for Premier League clubs on Thursday.
Although Brighton have already added 10 players to their squad, Houghton is aware that preserving their Premier League status is likely to be tougher the second time around than it was last season, so is trying to make sure that they have strength in depth all over the field.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder does not want to lose O’Connell but may sell if the Brighton offer is attractive enough, in which case he may move, in turn, for Millwall’s Jake Cooper.
Brighton get their Premier League campaign underway next Saturday away to Watford at Vicarage Road.
