Crystal Palace set to sign German international Max Meyer

Crystal Palace are set to sign German international; Max Meyer who is a free agent after leaving Bundesliga side Schalke at the end of last season.

The 22-year old, who can play either as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, has been heavily linked in the past with both Arsenal and Liverpool, so his capture will represent something of a coup for manager Roy Hodgson, who has been looking for a replacement for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has returned to Chelsea after his loan spell at Selhurst Park ended.

Although highly rated as one of the best young talents to emerge from Germany in recent years, he fell out, according to The Guardian, with the hierarchy at Schalke towards the end of his time there, and was eventually banned from the training ground after an argument with the club’s sporting director.

That earned him an unwanted reputation and, together with his wage demands, may go some way to explaining why it has taken so long for another club to snap him up
