Newcastle agree deal for Japanese striker

Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign 26-year old Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto, currently playing in the Bundesliga for Mainz.

Muto, who has 25 international caps for Japan was part of their squad for this year’s World Cup, although his active participation was limited to their last group game when they were beaten by a Poland by a single goal.

The fee is £9.5 million according to The BBC, and is subject to a work permit, although this is not expected to be a problem.

Muto has scored 23 goals in three seasons for Mainz and his arrival may be an indication that Newcastle are now prepared to sell striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham, with the clubs previously locked in negotiations about a possible transfer for the Serbian..

The news about Muto comes on the same day that the club confirmed the arrival of Swiss defender Fabian Schar from Deportivo la Corǖna’
