Crystal Palace have submitted a formal offer to Roma for defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons.
According to tuttomercataoweb Palace have offered €10 million (£8.9 million) for the 29-year old defensive midfielder, as Roy Hodgson looks to strengthen his midfield, depleted following the departure of Yohan Cabaye, who joined Arabian Gulf League side Al Nasr on a free transfer, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who has returned to his parent club Chelsea after the end of his loan spell.
Gonalons only joined Roma a year ago from French side Lyons, but struggled to establish himself in Italy, playing only 16 times in his first season, and now it appears that his brief unhappy spell in Serie A may be about to be brought to a premature end.
A club legend at Lyon, where he is eighth in terms of all time appearances for the club, he earned the first of his eight full caps for France against the USA back in 2011, although it has been three years since his last international call-up.
