Frank Lampard’s Derby County are in advanced talks to sign striker Martyn Waghorn from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town.
That is according to The Daily Mail who report that County have bid £8 million for a player who scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists for the East Anglian side last season.
Waghorn has had an itinerant career, starting with his home town club Sunderland and taking in sojourns at Leicester and Wigan, as well as loan spells at the likes of Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Millwall.
He really came into prominence when he moved to Scotland and Rangers in 2015, and his two-year spell at Ibrox saw him net 27 times in 57 appearances and eventually earn the move back south to Ipswich.
Now he is set to move yet again as Lampard, who has already wrapped-up loan deals for Liverpool’s Harry Wilson and Chelsea’s Masson Mount, as well as concluding the permanent transfer of Brentford winger Florian Jozefzoon, looks to bolster his striking options ahead of the new season.
