Tottenham Hotspur are said to be in talks with Aston Villa over the transfer of midfielder Jack Grealish.
That is according to Sky Sports News who report that Villa value the 22-year old former Engand-under 21 international at between £30 million and £40 million, although separate reports suggests trhat Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, a notoriously hard-nosed negotiator when it comes to the transfer market, is trying to clinch the deal for much less.
Levy is aware, as is the rest of football, that Villa are facing severe financial difficulties, and may be forced to sell Grealish, who they regard as their jewel in the crown, in order to help balance the books at Villa Park.
His current manager Steve Bruce appears reconciled to the player’s loss, telling The Sun “He is a special talent, a real special talent, and yes, you don’t want to lose him but the inevitable thing is we have to.”
Tottenham leave for a pre-season tour of the United States on Sunday, and with a host of players missing after their World Cup adventures, would like to have Grealish on board as they prepare to face Roma, AC Milan and Barcelona in the International Champions Cup.
