Liverpool have, reportedly made a £62 million (€70 million) offer to sign goalkeeper Alisson Becker from Roma.
That is according to Italian media out Il Messagero who claim that The Reds have submitted a world record bid for a goalkeeper to the Italian club, considerably in excess of the £35 million that Premier League rivals Manchester City paid Benfica for Alisson’s Brazilian compatriot, Ederson, last summer.
Liverpool have been looking for a new goalkeeper since the costly errors of Loris Karius in the Champions League Final, with a host of names linked with a move to Merseyside, although Alisson’s name has been consistently been in the frame.
However, with Roma apparently valuing the player at closer to £80 million, they may feel that anything above their current offer will be too expensive, especially if the reported interest from Chelsea, who may be in the market for a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, materialises.
