Newcastle United have turned down a bid from West Ham United for their captain and highly rated defender Jamaal Lascelles.
The 24-year old centre-half has been attracting interest from the Premier League top clubs for some time, and, during the course of last season, was linked with a move to Chelsea on more than one occasion.
However, no firm move was ever made, and now that an offer has been put on the table by West Ham, which, according to The Daily Mail was £20 million rising to £25 million, it has been swiftly rejected by the hierarchy at St. James Park.
Despite this, it is believed that their stance could change if West Ham, or anybody else, were to offer more for the player, who, despite his name, was born in Derby and has been capped by England at all international levels up to under-21.
Lascelles joined Newcastle from Nottingham Forest for 2014 for £5 million, and his appreciation in value demonstrates the improvements he has made under the tutelage of Rafa Benitez.
