West Ham have submitted a formal offer to Real Madrid to sign Croatia World Cup star, Mateo Kovacic.
That is according to Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb who report that the 24-year old is unhappy with his lack of first-team action at the Bernabeu, after he started just 10 La Liga matches next season.
Whilst Real do not want to sell the gifted midfielder, he has made plain his feelings saying “I know that it’s difficult to be a starter at Real Madrid, especially when I arrived at a really young age.
“I understand the situation, but because of that I believe the best thing for me would be to go to another club where I’d have the opportunity to play regularly as a starter.”
Kovacic does not lack for admirers, even without taking his exploits in Russia this summer into account. Premier League rivals Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City are all thought to be interested in signing him, as are the Serie A trio of Juventus, Roma and Napoli.
However, West Ham have propelled themselves to the front of the queue by making a bid for a player who will hope to be lining-up In the World Cup quarter final against Russia this Saturday.
