Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is set to sign a new four-year deal with the club, as Unai Emery continues with his overhaul of the Gunners squad.
The 23-year old only signed a contract extension in November 2017, but now it appears that new boss Emery is prepared to give the former Southampton player every chance to compete for a spot as centre-half in the first team, according to The BBC.
This represents something of a change of fortune for Chambers, who struggled to convince previous boss Arsene Wenger that he had a future at The Emirates, and was loaned out to Middlesborough for the whole of the 2016 – 2017 loan.
Chambers will compete for the centre-back berth with Rob Holding, who has also recently signed a new long-term deal, promising young Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, and imminent new arrival Sokratis Papastathopoulos, whose arrival from Borussia Dortmund is expected to be confirmed in the next few days.
In addition, Laurent Koscielny, currently sidelined by injury, is expected back by Christmas.
