Leicester close in on Georgian centre-half

Leicester City are closing in on the signature of giant Georgian centre-half Solomon Kvirkvelia, as their busy summer in the transfer window continued.

The 6 ft. 5in defender plays for Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow, and helped them win their domestic league title this season, and the Russian Cup last year.

The Daily Mirror reports that Leicester have long been admirers of Kvirkvelia, and could be ready to make a bid of around £15 million for the defender, who has been capped 28 times by his country.

Leicester have already signed Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion and Porto right back Ricardo Pereira, whilst a deal for Norwich City midfielder James Maddison is also said to be close to completion.

Kvirkvelia confirmed that he is in talks with Leicester saying: My agent is conducting negotiations with the English club and in these next few days it will be clear to Lokomotiv if I go to Leicester. The English club’s interest is there and playing in the Premier League is my dream. This transfer will be solved in the nearest future.”

Kvirkvelia’s arrival will likely see one of their stalwarts of their Premiership winning team, captain Wes Morgan, fall further down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, as manager Claude Puel continues to put his own stamp on the side.
