Pochettini contract does not contain Real release clause

The BBC reports that, contrary to some reports, Mauricio’s Pochettino’s new contract at Tottenham does not contain a clause allowing him to leave if approached by Real Madrid.

The 46-year old Argentine, who only signed a five-year contract extension at Spurs last week, has been made the early favourite to replace Zinedine Zidane at the Spanish champions, who announced his shock resignation on Wednesday just days after guiding his side to a third-successive Champions L:eague triumph.

Pochettino is believed to be Real’s president Florentino Perez first-choice to take the job at the Bernabeu, having been an admirer of his since when he was managing Espanyol. He also impressed when Real and Spurs met in the Champions League group phases earlier this year.

However, rumours that Pochettino’s new deal included a break clause in case Real approached him for his services appear to have been quashed by the man himself, although he did leave a small caveat at the end in saying” “I renewed recently for five years. I am very happy with my current team, I enjoy the day to day, I am happy, but you never know what can happen.”
