United close to deal for teenage right-back

The BBC report that Manchester United are close to completing their first transfer of the summer window by signing Porto right-back Diogo Dalot.

The 19-year old has a release clause in his contract of £17.4 million, and although United have yet to activate it, the two clubs are in discussions, and it appears to be a matter of when the deal goes through, not if.

Dialot, who is a current Portuguese under-21 international, has represented his country at every age level from under-15 upwards, and is expected to provide competition for current right-back and captain, Antonio Valencia.

It is the first sign of the long-expected defensive overhaul by Jose Mourinho this summer, with Matteo Darmian set to join Juventus, and the futures of Daley Blind, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw all under threat at the club.

United have also been linked with moves for Shaktar Donetsk midfielder Fred, and Spurs central defender Toby Aldeweireld.
