West Ham set to move for Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez is in line to become the new manager of West ham United, reports Sky Sports.

The 58 –year old manager, who is currently managing Newcastle United, has 12 months on his contract to run with the North-East club, and talks are ongoing over an extension. However, there are concerns about the future direction of the club, with current owner Mike Ashley wanting to sell, and seemingly not prepared to invest large sums in the transfer market.

Benitez is understood to have a £6 million release clause in his contract, and now it looks like West Ham may be prepared to trigger it as they look for a long-term replacement for David Moyes, whose contract was terminated after six months in charge at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are also reported to be interested in Paolo Fonseca, currently managing Ukrainian club Shaktar Donetsk, who beat Manchester City during the group phases of this season’s Champions League.
