Manchester City have moved swiftly to quash reports linking Sergio Aguerro with a move away from the Etihad reports The Daily Mirror.
This is in response to rumours that the Argentine striker was being lined-up by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who is widely expected to be joining Barcelona this summer. However, City have no intention of selling the 29-year old, who has previously told the club hierarchy that he intends to honour the remaining two years of his contract, after which he wants to return home and play for his first club, Independiente, in Argentina again.
Manager Pep Guardiola has previously stated that he intends to sign no more than two players in the summer window – a defender and a forward who can play in wide areas, and does not want to have to find somebody to replace the goals of Aguerro, City’s leading goal scorer of all time, who has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season from 39 appearances.
