Arsenal looking for cheaper options as they consider Wenger replacement

The Daily Mail reports that they are looking for cheaper option to replace Arsene Wenger, with the club reluctant to match the £8.5 million annual salary that the Frenchman now commands.

Wenger is one of the best paid managers in England, but Gunners bosses are reluctant to make such a weighty financial investment in their new manager, mindful of the consequences should the next appointment not succeed.

That would appear to rule out Luis Enrique, who has been considered favourite for the job, but is said to want a salary in the region of £15 million a year. Instead, it suggests that a cheaper, less experienced option might be considered, such as former players Patrick Vieira or Mikel Arteta, or Jurgen Klopp’s deputy, Zeljko Buvac, whose name has entered the frame following reports emerging from his native Bosnia, and after suddenly taking leave of absence from first-team duties at Liverpool for the rest of the season.
