According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United want to re-sign central defender Jonny Evans this summer, three years after they let him leave the club.
A former graduate of the United academy, Evans played 198 times for United between 2006 and 2015 before he was sold to West Bromwich Albion for a fee of around £6 million. Since then he has gone on to captain Albion and has generally impressed, despite playing for a struggling side. He was linked with January transfer moves with both Arsenal and Manchester City, but neither failed to make a substantive move for the player, who may now be set to be reunited with former teammates at Old Trafford.
Evans has a clause in his contract which will let him leave Albion for as little as £3 million in the event that they are relegated from the Premier League, an event which will almost certainly be confirmed this weekend. For their part, United want to add strength to their backline, and view Evans as a reliable, and cheap, option.
