The Sun reports that Manchester City will let central defender John Stones leave the club in the summer.
The England international finds himself falling down the pecking order at The Emirates, and is now regarded as fourth choice behind Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi, and the January signing Aymeric Laporte. Stones has struggled for form at City, and whilst boss Pep Guardiola publicly talks-up the player, it is understood that, in private, he feels that the 23-year old has not made the sort of progress that would justify him becoming a first-team regular.
The Barnsley-born player has long been regarded as one of the brightest prospects in English football, but his two years at City have largely been a disappointment, and he has failed to justify the fee of £47.5 million they paid Everton for him in August 2016. However, with Stones currently earning £100,000 a week and City looking to recoup most of his transfer fee, the list of clubs that could afford to buy him is very limited.
